Newest BMW Art Car
Why hello everyone, and welcome; to my arts and entertainment blog. Got an excited piece for all you vehicle lovers out there today. Anyone know what a BMW art car is? These cars are BMW automobiles that a select group of artists get to use as a canvas to display their art. It is a genious idea that came to light in 1975 when French racecar driver Herve Poulain invited Alexander Calder to paint the very first BMW art car. The first car used was a BMW 3.0 CSL that was later raced in the 1975 Le Mans endurance race by Poulain himself.
The latest BMW art car was recently finished by Cao Fei, who is both the youngest and the first Chinese artist to ever create a BMW Art Car. Fei is well known in the art world for questioning the lines that separate the mental, physical and digital experience and the existence that we garner from their different experiences. Based out of Beijing, Fei has had works in MoMa PS1 in New York City as well as the Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It took her three years to finish the work on BMW Art Car #18, after she attended a race in Switzerland and had a chat with driver Cyndie Allemann. She would later took the BMW plant in Tiexi, Chine and visit BMW headquarters before working with engineers and designers of the company for inspiration and education.
What do you all think of the car? Personally I think it looks really cool, but the pictures I have seen are confusing. What I wonder is if the car looks this way in real life, or is it only because we are looking at it on a computer? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below, and have a great one!
